Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency has issued sanctions against Riway.

From August 3rd, Riway is prohibited from operating in Japan for six months.

The CAA’s decision was issued following observation of “chain sales transactions”, in violation of Japan’s Commercial Transactions Law.

I take it “chain sales transactions” refers to Riway operating as a pyramid scheme.

Over the six months suspension period, Riway has been ordered to ‘take measures to prevent recurrence and establish a compliance system’ to prevent future violations.

Riway Japan’s Director and General Manager, Lin Yuan and Chen Jiankin respectively, have also been sanctioned.

The pair are forbidden to own, operate or promote an MLM business until till February 2022.

Japan taking regulatory action follows Singapore prosecuting Riway in July.

The Health Sciences Authority took Riway to court over repeated instances of illegal medical claims.
