Trey & Emily Knight plead guilty to bankruptcy fraud
Navan Global founder Trey Knight, aka Haskell Knight, and wife Emily Knight, aka Emily Deborah Fryer, are set to plead guilty to bankruptcy fraud.
Known to BehindMLM was the Knights’ indictment for wire fraud, filed in Louisiana back in 2021. That case is scheduled for trial commencing February 4th, 2025.
What we didn’t know the Knights had also separately been indicted for bankruptcy fraud in 2022.
In the Knights’ Louisiana wire fraud case, the DOJ filed a Motion to Consolidate on January 17th;
On May 12, 2022, the Middle District of Florida Grand Jury returned an eleven-count Indictment charging the defendants with one count of bankruptcy fraud, in violation 18 U.S.C. § 157(3), two counts of false statement under penalty of perjury, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 152(3) and eight counts of false oath, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 152(2).
On October 15, 2024, defendant, TREY GRANT KNIGHT and his attorney executed a Rule 20 agreeing to plead guilty to count one of the Middle District of Florida indictment and have the matter transferred to the Middle District of Louisiana.
The matter has been transferred to the Middle District of Louisiana for the guilty plea and sentencing.
This is the first I’d heard of the Knights’ bankruptcy fraud proceedings. Perusal of the indictment reveals the Knights lied under oath with respect to previous bankruptcy proceedings.
The relevant time period is June through October 2016, during which the Knights were Melaleuca and Kyani distributors.
In or about October 2016, Trey Knight and Emily Knight submitted paperwork to Melaleuca to change the name on the account from their personal capacities to Uninterrupted Marketing, a business they controlled.
In or about June 2017, Trey Knight also received money from a network marketing business named Kyani.
The Knights filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on May 26th, 2017.
Total assets worth $24,487.00 and total liabilities of $598,968.88 were listed on the appropriate schedule
Trey Knight and Emily Knight did not disclose income from Melaleuca and Kyani to the bankruptcy court.
As part of proceedings the Knights were questioned under oath. Together they failed to disclose their MLM earnings, as well as failed business dealings Empower Outreach and Udoxa.
Three of Udoxa investors sued the bankruptcy estate as creditors to cover their losses.
Trey Knight and Emily Knight claimed that two of the four investors were creditors but not in connection with Udoxa.
The Knights were charged with:
- one count of bankruptcy fraud;
- two counts of false statement; and
- eight counts of false oath
The Knights’ guilty plea will see them plead guilty to the count of bankruptcy fraud.
The DOJ requested a change of plea hearing on the Florida docket on November 12th, 2024. The bankruptcy case was transferred to Louisiana on December 4th but no change of plea hearing date has been set.
A ruling on the DOJ’s wire fraud motion to consolidate the cases, now that they’re both in Louisiana, remains pending.
