Bitcoiin defendants’ trial rescheduled for March 2022
Due to the complex nature of the case, the Bitcoiin criminal trial has been pushed back to March 14th, 2022.
As stated in an October 27th order;
The Court has considered factors which indicate that its failure to grant this motion would deny counsel for defendants reasonable time necessary for effective preparation, taking into account the exercise of due diligence.
Additionally, this Court has previously determined this case to be so complex due to the nature of the prosecution, as well as the voluminous discovery in the case, that it is unreasonable to expect adequate preparation for the trial itself within the time limits established by the Speedy Trial Act.
The order applies to Bitcoiin defendants Antonije Stojilkovic, Haojia Miao and Jaira David.
Defendant John DeMarr pled guilty to Bitcoiin criminal charges in August.
Kristijan Krstic (right), mastermind of the Bitcoiin Ponzi scheme, was arrested in Serbia in July 2020.
Pending his extradition to the US, Serbian authorities released Krstic to home detention in July 2021.
Krstic and his wife, also an arrested suspect pending extradition, promptly fled. They are believed to have left their four kids behind.
The Krstic’s remain fugitives on the run. Their whereabouts are unknown.
Krstic’s and his wife’s disappearance has yet to be addressed on the Bitcoiin case docket.
Update 19th December 2021 – Haojia Miao has pled guilty to one count of wire fraud.
Update 19th March 2022 – Antonije Stojilkovic and Jaira David pled guilty last November, negating the need for a trial.
Including Miao, all three defendants are awaiting sentencing.
@Oz
They did a runner without the kids (all 4, not 2), left all behind.
Word is they are in a secure location in Serbia, fulfilling their obligations towards their local protectors (moving btc and other stolen cryto assets).
It’s a hear say, people talk…who knows. Kind of hard to imagine they would leave kids, unless they were taken by someone. Or worst. Let’s hope not.
They left the kids behind? After Krstic’s wife did that whole song and dance about not seeing her children if she was extradited?
Geez, that’s pretty low.
I figured they’d left with the kids because they collected them prior to disappearing.
@Oz yeah, abandoned kids. That’s what fuels the theory something bad happened. One of the children is a newborn baby, 10 months old or so …
And there is virtually no news portal that covers this story locally now, after reporting they fled. Literarily not a word.
They did state (when released to home detention) that they only created white label brands, someone else operated them, guess that’s the info that some people prefer not to be explored further.
This is obviously far from over. Wonder if FBI is looking into this matter again…
Abandoned children? Sickening. If that doesn’t turn the opnion of their supporters, friends and whatever, nothing will if the “something bad” was under their control.
There’s a moral here, like don’t steal.
Worst comes to worst the DOJ will have to file a status report re. Krstic at some point.
That could be well after the March 2022 trial though.
Any update on this case?
All three defendants pled guilty, negating the need for a trial.
I’ve updated the article to reflect that. Latest on Bitcoiin is published here:
