Merrill trial continuance granted but only for 2 weeks

A few days ago James Merrill filed a motion for continuance, requesting his upcoming criminal trial be postponed till November 14th.
The DOJ opposed the motion, citing preparation issues and weakness with Merrill’s reasoning.
A hearing on the matter was held earlier today.
Merrill’s motion has been granted in part. Merrill got his delay but not for as long as he’d hoped.
Judge Hillman has scheduled a new trial date for November 8th.
The final pre-trial conference will be held on October 24th and jury selection will take place on October 25th.
Stay tuned…
Does this suggest that Merrill has lost his reason (mentally) or that his defense is weak and non-sensical? Both?
Just Merrill’s reasoning behind the motion (discovery, his kids sports event), not his actual defense.
Oh. Thanks.
trial on election day?
Election day isn’t a national holiday in the US.
