Magic Power Coffee markets its product as a ‘100% natural sex enhancement product’. The company claims its coffee drink contains Epimedium (horny goat weed), Ginseng, wolfberry (goji berry) and a host of other natural ingredients. The coffee is designed to be a healthy natural alternative to commonly used chemical enhancements such as viagra or cialis (tadalafil).

After examining Magic Power Coffee, last week the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) went public with its findings. Turns out Magic Power Coffee isn’t natural after all.

Infact it’s potentially downright dangerous.

The FDA slammed Magic Power Coffee over its claims that it was offering a 100% natural product. After analysis the FDA concluded that Magic Power Coffee contained the chemical enhancer hydroxythiohomosildenafil.

Hydroxythiohomosildenafil is similar to sildenafil, which is the active ingredient in Viagra. The inclusion of Hydroxythiohomosildenafil presumably provides the source of the sexually enhancing properties Magic Power Coffee claim its product has.

Whilst hydroxythiohomosildenafil isn’t illegal and appears to be FDA approved, it’s inclusion in Magic Power Coffee renders the coffee drink a drug. Furthermore hydroxythiohomosildenafil is not declared anywhere as an active ingredient of Magic Power Coffee.

The FDA warns that hydroxythiohomosildenafil

may interact with prescription drugs known as nitrates, including nitroglycerin, and cause dangerously low blood pressure.

When blood pressure drops suddenly, the brain is deprived of an adequate blood supply, which can lead to dizziness or lightheadedness.

Customers who have this product in their possession should stop using it immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking this product.

Due to the fact Magic Power Coffee failed to disclose its use of hydroxythiohomosildenafil as an active ingredient, the FDA claims that use of Magic Power Coffee is ‘likely to expose consumers to unpredictable risks and the potential for injury or even death‘.

In response to the FDA announcement Magic Power Coffee’s parent company INZ Distributors have issued a voluntary recall on all Magic Power Coffee product with production dates up till the 5th August, 2010.

With Magic Power Coffee being the sole product for associates of Magic Power Coffee to market, the future of the company in the MLM industry is now unclear.

It appears Magic Power Coffee and INZ Distributors now have two choices;

a. take out hydroxythiohomosildenafil as an active ingredient and likely loose any real sexual enhancement properties Magic Power Coffee contains or

b. declare hydroxythiohomosildenafil as an active ingredient and admit that their product is basically viagra in a drink. This would mean dropping all references to Magic Power Coffee Pro being an ‘all natural product’.

Differentiating itself from Viagra as an all natural aphrodisiac was a strong selling point of Magic Power Coffee and it’s sad to see the company misled the general public. Whether or not the company can recover from this product recall remains to be seen.

At the time of publication it appears several Magic Power Coffee distributors are still marketing Magic Power Coffee despite the product recall.
