BehindMLM has published two LifeVantage reviews to date; the first in 2015 and a second in 2019.

In September 2025, LifeVantage announced it had acquired LoveBiome. This prompted a BehindMLM reader to request an updated review.

Seeing as it’s been six years, today we’re revisiting LifeVantage for an updated review.

The Company

LiveVantage launched in 2009 as LifeLine Therapeutics. The company initially burned through money, losing millions of dollars in its first few years.

Under CEO Doug Robinson LifeVantage rebooted as an MLM company. Robinson would go on to claim this “saved [the] company”.

That same year, LifeVantage also became a publicly listed company under the ticker “LFVN”.

Since BehindMLM’s first 2015 review, LifeVantage had been headed up by CEO Darren Jensen. Jensen resigned in September 2020.

Today LifeVantage is headed up by President and CEO Steve Fife (right).

Fife was previously LifeVantage’s Chief Financial Officer, having joined the company in 2017.

After being appointed as interim CEO after Jensen’s departure, Fife’s appointment appears to have stuck.

Prior to LifeVantage, Fife’s LinkedIn profile reveals positions in varied industries dating back to the 1980s. LifeVantage appears to be Fife’s first MLM executive role.

LifeVantage’s Products

In 2015 LifeVantage had a manageable product range. By 2019 however the range had blown at such that it was impractical to list everything in our second review.

Thankfully that seems to have changed, with LifeVantage returning to a slimmer product offering in 2025.

The company still has eleven product categories though. Some categories are just bundles of individual LifeVantage products. Some LifeVantage products also appear in multiple categories.

PV stands for “Personal Volume”. PV is generated via retail sales and a LifeVantage promoter’s own orders.

Note that for rank qualification, no more than 150 PV can come from a LifeVantage promoter’s own orders.

GV stands for “Group Volume”. GV is the sum total PV of a LifeVantage promoter and their downline.

Retail Commissions

LifeVantage pays commissions on retail customer orders.

Retail commissions are calculated as the difference between the retail price paid and LifeVantage’s promoter price.

LifeVantage promoter prices vary from product to product.

Retail Bonus

LiveVantage pays a bonus on retail customer orders.

The Retail Bonus rate is calculated monthly, based on total retail customer order volume for that month:

  • Onyx – generate 500 to 999.99 PV in monthly retail customer orders and receive a 5% Retail Bonus
  • Emerald – generate 1000 to 1999.99 PV in monthly retail customer orders and receive a 10% Retail Bonus
  • Sapphire – generate 2000 to 3999.99 PV in monthly retail customer orders and receive a 15% Retail Bonus
  • Diamond – generate 4000 or more PV in monthly retail customer orders and receive a 20% Retail Bonus

Sharing Bonus

The Sharing Bonus rewards a LifeVantage promoter for recruiting a promoter who makes retail customer sales.

The Sharing Bonus is paid as 10% of retail sales volume generated by a recruited promoter within their first month.

Note the Sharing Bonus is capped at $100 per personally recruited promoter. This amount

Launch Bonus

New LifeVantage promoters have a three month “launch period”.

During this period, they are eligible for a bonus 10% on personal PV and sales volume generated by personally recruited promoters (capped at $100 per promoter).

If a LifeVantage promoter ranks at Senior Consultant 1 during their launch period, they receive an additional $150 bonus.

Residual Commissions

LifeVantage pays residual commissions via a unilevel compensation structure.

A unilevel compensation structure places a promoter at the top of a unilevel team, with every personally recruited promoter placed directly under them (level 1):

If any level 1 promoters recruit new promoters, they are placed on level 2 of the original promoter’s unilevel team.

If any level 2 promoters recruit new promoters, they are placed on level 3 and so on and so forth down a theoretical infinite number of levels.

LifeVantage caps payable unilevel team levels at nine.

Residual commissions are paid as a percentage of sales volume generated across these nine levels based on rank:

  • Consultant 1s earn 5% on level 1 (personally recruited promoters)
  • Consultant 2s earn 7% on level 1
  • Consultant 3s earn 9% on level 1 and 3% on level 2
  • Senior Consultant 1s earn 10% on level 1 and 5% on level 2
  • Senior Consultant 2s earn 10% on level 1, 6% on level 2 and 3% on level 3
  • Senior Consultant 3s earn 10% on level 1, 7% on level 2, 5% on level 3 and 3% on level 4
  • Managing Consultant 1s earn 10% on level 1, 7% on level 2, 6% on level 3, 5% on level 4 and 3% on level 5
  • Managing Consultant 2s earn 10% on level 1, 7% on levels 2 and 3, 6% on level 4, 5% on level 5 and 3% on levels 6 and 7
  • Managing Consultant 3s earn 10% on level 1, 7% on levels 2 and 3, 6% on levels 4 and 5, 4% on levels 6 and 7 and 3% on levels 8 and 9
  • Executive Consultant 1s and higher earn 10% on level 1, 7% on levels 2 and 3, 6% on levels 4 and 5, 5% on level 6, 4% on level 7 and 3% on levels 8 and 9

Matching Bonus

LifeVantage pays a Matching Bonus on residual commissions.

LifeVantage defines a generation in a unilevel team leg when a Managing Consultant 1 or higher is found in the leg.

This promoter caps off the first generation for that leg, with the second generation beginning immediately after.

If a second Managing Consultant 1 or higher is found deeper in the leg, that promoter caps off the second generation for that leg.

If there are no Managing Consultant 1s deeper in the leg, the second generation runs the full depth of the leg.

Using this generational structure, LifeVantage pays the Matching Bonus on up to seven generations per unilevel team leg:

  • Managing Consultant 2s earn a 7% Matching Bonus on one generation per leg, capped at $1000 per downline promoter
  • Managing Consultant 3s earn a 12% Matching Bonus on the first generation in a leg and 10% on the second, capped at $2500 per downline promoter
  • Executive Consultant 1s earn a 15% Matching Bonus on the first generation in a leg, 12% on the second and 10% on the third, capped at $5000 per downline promoter
  • Executive Consultant 2s earn a 20% Matching Bonus on the first and second generations in a leg, 15% on the third, 12% on the fourth and 10% on the fifth, capped at $10,000 per downline promoter
  • Executive Consultant 3s earn a 20% Matching Bonus on the first to third generations in a leg, 15% on the fourth, 12% on the fifth and 10% on the sixth, capped at $15,000 per downline promoter
  • Presidential Consultants earn a 20% Matching Bonus on the first to fourth generations in a leg, 15% on the fifth and 12% on the sixth and seventh, capped at $15,000 per downline promoter

Leadership Pool

LifeVantage takes 4% of company-wide sales volume and places it into a Leadership Pool.

The Leadership Pool is paid out to Executive Consultants 1s and higher, based on shares:

  • Executive Consultant 1s receive 1 share
  • Executive Consultant 2s receive 3 shares
  • Executive Consultant 3s receive 5 shares
  • Executive Consultant 4s receive 10 shares
  • Presidential Consultants receive 20 shares

The Leadership Pool is paid out monthly.

LifeVantage Conclusion

A consistent issue with LifeVantage across BehindMLM’s first two reviews has been retail focus.

Mandatory promoter orders were an issue with LifeVantage in both 2015 and 2019. This raised serious pyramid scheme concerns.

In 2025 mandatory promoter orders are gone but LifeVantage still leaves a question mark over retail focus.

There no doubt that LifeVantage has made a solid effort to encourage retail sales through the Retail Bonus, Sharing Bonus and Launch Bonus.

Monthly PV requirements cap out at 300 PV, however only 150 PV of a LifeVantage’s own order volume counts.

For Consultant 3 and higher, there isn’t an issue. LifeVantage promoters have to be making retail sales or they don’t qualify for MLM commissions.

Consultant and Consultant 1 can be qualified for exclusively on a monthly promoter autoship order. Consultant 2 is a bit of a grey area, with 150 PV counted out of a total 200 PV required.

In February 2025 LifeVantage published an Income Disclosure Statement for 2024 (IDS).

As per the 2024 IDS, 67.67% of all promoters are rank Consultant to Consultant 2 – i.e. the problem ranks.

I can’t definitively say whether or not the majority of LifeVantage promoters across Consultant to Consultant 2 are qualifying for commissions primarily through a monthly autoship order. But it’s certainly possible.

LifeVantage could address this compliance loophole by capping promoter order PV to 50 and up to 100 PV in retail order volume. But they haven’t.

It’s not an egregious issue as mandatory promoter orders were but it still unfortunately lends itself to LifeVantage running the majority of its business as a pyramid scheme.

There’s at least one guard rail in place to prevent this happening on paper…

Each LifeVantage Consultant personally agrees that they may not place a new order in any given month unless 70% of all orders from previous months have been sold or consumed through personal/family use.

…but how strictly the above is enforced I can’t say.

Moving on, a change I noticed in LifeVantage’s product lineup was the attempt to compete with GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs (Ozempic etc.).

Turn down food noise, quiet cravings, and hush hunger with the next evolution in Activation–the MindBody GLP-1 System.

This patent-pending system is clinically shown to naturally increase GLP-1 by over 200% on average.

The caveat?

Results may vary. Typical weight loss using this product in a 12 week weight management program is 1–2 pounds per week.

This product should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

LifeVantage claim results from two human clinical studies. Sure, but how much of the weight loss is attributable to “a healthy diet and regular exercise” – both of which naturally increase GLP-1 levels.

Part of the reason Ozempic et al. blew up is because all people had to do was take the injection. In other words it appealed to lazy people who didn’t want to do any extra work.

LifeVantage can include GLP-1 in its marketing but it’s not really a competitor in that sense. Instead it’s competing against other GLP-1 supplements, of which there are plenty around at a much cheaper price.

I also took issue with LifeVantage’s marketing pitch for PhysIQ Fat Burn. Specifically that it is somehow able to target “the problematic mid-section”.

Nope. That’s not how fat loss works. You can reduce fat overall on your body but you don’t get to choose where it’s lost from. Nor can you encourage the body to lose fat from any specific area – that’s up to genetics.

This makes PhysIQ Fat Burn an expensive $68.99 bottle of misleading advertising.

Protandim varieties are still LifeVantage’s flagship product, however I got the feeling they’ve taken a backseat to the weight loss range.

This is obviously attributable to bandwagoning on the Ozempic et al. craze over the past few years. The FDA going after LifeVantage for bogus Protandim medical claims may have also contributed to the marketing shift.

In 2018 the Alzheimer’s Drug Discover Foundation also published a report stating the doses of combined herbs in Protandim had “no clear clinical value”.

Neuroprotective Benefit: No evidence that in this formulation the antioxidants can reach the brain or exert any type of neuroprotective activity in vivo.

Aging and related health concerns: Possible minor survival benefit in male mice. Clinical studies show reductions in an oxidative stress marker but no evidence of meaningful clinical benefits.

Safety: No major adverse effects. Doses of ingredients lower than those traditionally used therapeutically, and no evidence that combining them is harmful.

LifeVantage focusing on weight loss isn’t a problem in and of itself, just be wary of GLP-1 marketing claims. GLP-1 over the counter supplements are not comparable or a substitute for Ozempic et al. prescription drugs (note I am not recommending one over the other!).

There might be value for you in the rest of LifeVantge’s range but I didn’t see anything that really stood out. Definitely shop around on ingredients and price for the rest of the range.

On the LoveBiome merger, as it stands things are a bit messy. Some LoveBiome products are available on LifeVantage’s website. Others are only available on LoveBiome’s website.

Likewise some LifeVantage products are available on LoveBiome’s website but not the full range.

This is messy product signaling for retail customers. Either run LoveBiome as its own company or fully integrate the product ranges across both companies.

All up, LifeVantage has come a long way from the 2015 mandatory promoter order days but there’s still a little bit of compliance work to be done.

LifeVantage’s product range can be questionable, particularly with its flagship range and weight loss. Given marketing on LifeVantage’s website focuses on these two product categories, this could be problematic.

Beyond that though there’s nothing overtly worth a red flag in LifeVantage’s offering. So long as you’re aware of what you’re signing up for, good luck!
