Jerky Direct Review: “The best Jerky Products you have eaten!”
As per the Jerky Direct website;
Jerky Direct was founded on the three core principles in 2004, and saw amazing growth.
A few years after the company was launched, its parent company forgot about it. The distributors were left on their own to build their business and grow their teams.
Attrition started to take over and Jerky Direct slowly started to decline until July, 2016 when the company announced they were closing their doors.
There was a group of distributors who saw the power behind Jerky Direct. They realized it offered an opportunity to start a home business that was unlike any other. They knew that Jerky Direct had to continue!
Jerky Direct was purchased and relaunched in August of 2016, keeping the core principles that made the business successful and adding everything else the company would need to grow.
Daniel Jay (right) is identified as CEO and Owner of Jerky Direct.
Born and raised in the Suburbs of St. Paul, Daniel has always had a passion for Network Marketing, Home Business and Entrepreneurship.
Jerky Direct was one of the first businesses he joined in 2004 while in college receiving his Bachelor’s Degree.
When Daniel got the news that Jerky Direct was closing, he knew that God was opening up a door for him at the exact right time.
In a video uploaded to a YouTube account bearing Daniel Jay’s name, Jay states:
I have worked online for the last 13 years in the home business, multilevel marketing, network marketing, niche websites, everything you could name.
For the last thirteen years I’ve tried to make money online … but I’ve never figured out how to make it work for me.
In addition to Jerky Direct, Jay is/was an affiliate with Empower Network.

The Jerky Direct Compensation Plan
The Jerky Direct compensation plan pays affiliates to sell product packs to retail customers.
Residual commissions are paid out via a unilevel compensation structure and Jerky Direct affiliates are also paid when newly recruited affiliates place a wholesale order.
Commission Qualification
Jerky Direct affiliates must buy or sell a product package to earn commissions.
Recruitment Commissions
When a new Jerky Direct affiliate places their first product order, the affiliate who recruited them is paid $5 per product pack ordered.
Residual Commissions
Residual commissions in Jerky Direct are paid out via a unilevel compensation structure.
A unilevel compensation structure places an affiliate at the top of a unilevel team, with every personally recruited affiliate placed directly under them (level 1):
If any level 1 affiliates recruit new affiliates, they are placed on level 2 of the original affiliate’s unilevel team.
If any level 2 affiliates recruit new affiliates, they are placed on level 3 and so on and so forth down a theoretical infinite number of levels.
Jerky Direct cap payable unilevel levels at seven. Commissions are paid out on retail sales and second month and beyond affiliate orders.
The commission rate for the sale of a product pack is $5, which is split over seven unilevel levels as follows:
- level 1 (personally recruited affiliates) – 40% ($2)
- levels 2 and 3 – 5% (25 cents)
- level 4 – 20% ($1)
- levels 5 and 6 – 5% (25 cents)
- level 7 – 20% ($1)
Joining Jerky Direct
Jerky Direct affiliate membership is $15.95.
Conclusion
The legitimacy of Jerky Direct hinges on retail sales of the company’s product packs, weighed against affiliate orders (internal consumption).
Jerky Direct offer up a simple and straight-forward MLM opportunity, and the good news is ascertaining whether there’s significant retail sales activity taking place is easy.
For his part Daniel Jay is adamant Jerky Direct affiliates sign up for autoship and self-qualify for commissions.
I always recommend people, when you’re signing up for the business, be a product of the product.
If you’re not willing to buy your product, you’re going to have a hard time trying to sell it to somebody else.
So I always recommend people to get on the autoship, to get on that right away so that when they have it every month they’re qualified for commissions.
Affiliates can qualify for commissions via a retail sale but seem unlikely to do so.
I want to state clearly that there’s nothing wrong with affiliates purchasing product, nor is there anything wrong with affiliate autoship.
Compliance issues however can arise if that is all that is taking place within an MLM company. With respect to Jerky Direct, that would be affiliates on autoship being the primary source of sales revenue.
Ascertaining whether that’s the case is straight-forward. As a prospective Jerky Direct affiliate just ask your potential upline how many retail orders they’re taking each month.
Weigh that against how many affiliates ordering product each month they’ve personally recruited and you’ll have your answer.
What you want to look for is a healthy mix of affiliate and retail orders, preferably weighted toward retail orders.
If the affiliate is heavy on recruited affiliate orders and has little to no retail activity taking place, it’s indicative of a product-based pyramid scheme.
As to Jerky Direct’s product itself, as someone who enjoys jerky himself, let me say that jerky quality is highly subjective. Definitely taste test Jerky Direct’s products, which you should easily be able to order (or even sample if you’re lucky) from your prospective upline.
Bear in mind that the online jerky industry is quite established at this point, so be sure to check out compare Jerky Direct with what’s available both nationally and locally in your area.
Good luck!
I’d say Daniel has bitten off more than he can chew with this one (pun intended).
Just out of curiosity how much is a bag of Jerky in the US? Compare that with the cost of 2 bags in this MLM and if, like the stream boxes they are grossly overpriced you pretty much have your answer on the success of retail.
All well and good saying you have the master samurai of Jerky makers creating your product without actually giving any info as to who that person could be.
And that’s one of the major problems with MLMs today. In the case of Streaming media boxes they sell for average $200 a pop you only need to look on amazon for the $46 firestick that can be easily modified to run kodi or the raspberry pi which is basically a linux OS with kodi installed.
Even if you are lazy and want it done for you, you can look up the MX boxes that come pre-installed with everything.
To add 150% to the cost of a product certainly will not help actual retail sales when that customer knows if they look they can find it much cheaper.
So again out of curiosity what is the markup on a bag of Jerky?
I’ll just say I can’t believe this lasted 12 but it wasn’t because of product sales. My friend joined initially in ’04 since he was a jerky nut and he even said it was too high priced.
Jack Link’s is the most popular around here (Eastern US) and they’re around $6 for 2.25oz.
Here is pricing from their website:
jacklinks.com/shop#?offset=0&limit=100
Overpriced. SumoJerky, a jerky subscription service, who sources gourmet jerky from all over the country, is $15 a month for 2 bags for the smallest amount. Subscription for 12 months or more bags per month is even cheaper per bag.
This guy ONLY has a couple choices from ONE vendor, and he wants the same price (or higher)? Meh.
And theres the problem. $6 for 2.25oz on Jack Links
Then $21.75 for 2x 2.5oz bags of what looks like burnt paper.
jerkydirect.com/shopping/sc_cart/sc_CatTy.asp?SectionID=1&treeUID=51903&guid=B2D2163F-31A4-4E69-B907-FBD580FB9183
Even the wholesale price from JerkyDirect is $19.75 ($7.75 more expensive than Jack Links)
Still, I have to say that it’s nice to see the occasional MLM with a product a group of consumers might actually want based on the product’s own merit, rather than the “product” fronting a pyramid/ponzi schemes that seem to comprise the majority of so-called MLM “opportunities”.
This one and Vantel Pearls, reviewed earlier this week, at least seem legit and a pleasant change from the Traffic Monsoons of the world.
Not to knock on Jack Links, as I don’t eat jerky (much), but it seems jerky connoisseurs don’t like the mass market stuff.
I think my point is services like SumoJerky deliver artisan/gourmet jerky for close to mass market jerky price direct to home, and it’s different one every month so there’s variety. This Jerky direct has ONE vendor, four flavors, AND is more expensive.
The commissions have to come from someplace.
You got to charge more to do it right?
Hello, this is Daniel Jay. Owner and CEO of Jerky Direct.
Yes, that is my picture up there (granted, not a very good picture of me!) But yes, I have been in MLM/Network marketing for years.
I have done many different home businesses with different levels of success. I started with Jerky Direct back in 2004 when they first launched and purchased the company in 2016 when they were going to shut down.
I believe in a simple home business that gives the average person a real opportunity for success.
With Jerky Direct – Our goal is not to compete with the prices of Jack Links or Obertos Beef Jerky. Chances are they will always have better prices than ours. We are not trying to create a mass produced, chemical filled beef jerky…
We support small, family run businesses and products that are completely made and produced in the USA.
As a re-launching company, we have recently expanded our line of jerky to an all Grass-Fed line of jerky as well.
We offer a simple product, with a realistic compensation plan people are able to make money with.
Believe it or not – our reps are making money off retail sales as well as their downline compensation.
Along with that, we have reps who are buying our jerky at wholesale prices and reselling them at fairs and other events for profits.
Before making any judgments – we encourage everyone to try our beef jerky. We believe it is the freshest and best tasting jerky you will ever eat. Along with that – we have the lowest cost, simplest and best home based business to get started with.
(Ozedit: Attempt to take discussion offsite removed.)
No matter which home business you choose – I wish you success!
Daniel Jay
You have now.
That would be ‘start’ an MLM or accept back door deals for having large teams and get positioned at the top.
The rest of the poor schmucks aka affiliates can continue to consume expensive jerky, dream, and make the aforementioned rich.
You are funny, Char. You are more ‘vital’ than you think as questioning….sure as hell know there is a ‘way’.
I just have not figured it out yet. I will and sooner probably then later. It has become boring with all the nonsense in this and that. Later, Char.
