Paparazzi toxic metals Johnson class-action dismissed
The Johnson class-action case against Paparazzi has been dismissed.
The Utah case, originally filed in North Carolina in 2022, stems from findings of toxic metal contamination in Paparazzi’s jewelry that same year.
As of March 2025 there are twenty-two Plaintiffs in the Johnson case;
- Crystal Johnson
- Carnelius Anderson
- Judy Baird
- Irene Burgess
- Nancy Campbell
- Cassandra Cave
- Lucille Clark
- Jeri Covington
- Deanna Dornaus
- Heather Gilbert
- Tamie Hollins
- Jacqueline Huskey
- Deanna Jackson
- Jeanette Jurgensen
- Nancy Kebort
- Karen Langston
- Catoyya Morgan
- Patricia Powell
- Nelisha Rodriguez
- Alisa Sidbury
- Denise Smiley
- Leslie Ann Williams
Eleven of the above Plaintiffs have alleged they suffered “physical reactions” as a result of contaminants in Paparazzi’s jewelry. The remaining Plaintiff’s however didn’t, resulting in an order of dismissal.
From the court’s March 28th order;
Eleven Plaintiffs meet the requirements to show standing because they allege they suffered a physical injury from Defendant’s products.
Assuming these facts are true, it is plausible that Plaintiffs purchased nickel-tainted jewelry because they suffered the expected physical reactions to such contaminants.
Therefore, Plaintiffs alleging physical reactions have standing because they plausibly allege injuries in fact (economic injuries with products plausibly purchased) that are traceable (physical symptoms when wearing Paparazzi Products) to the alleged misconduct (nickel-tainted jewelry and false advertisement of that jewelry).
The Court declines to reach the issue of standing for the remaining Plaintiffs on the present record.
Rather, having clarified the standing issue with regard to the Plaintiffs who allegedly suffered physical harm from Paparazzi’s products … the Court finds the most productive course of action will be to dismiss the Amended Complaint in its entirety and allow Plaintiffs their requested opportunity to amend.
Presumably the amended complaint, which has yet to be filed, will detail alleged physical reactions or similar harm for all twenty-two Plaintiffs.
The Johnson case Plaintiffs have until April 27th to file an amended complaint. BehindMLM will continue to monitor the case docket for updates.
