Treasure Island founded by convicted tax fraudster
Earlier today a BehindMLM reader wrote in claiming Jeff Dyck was running Treasure Island as Jeff Jeffries.
Treasure Island is an MLM company committing securities fraud through a reality show ruse.
Treasure Island’s unregistered investment scheme is simple; invest increments of $100 and Treasure Island will pay you back 150% within 12 months.
At time of publication the only name publicly attached to Treasure Island is Brett Nicholson.
The reader who wrote in seemed well-researched, so I took it upon myself to confirm. Here’s what I found.
Jeff Dyck pled guilty to fraud and tax evasion charges in 2016. The case was brought in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada and pertained to World United.
Dyck was sentenced to three years in prison in 2017, as reported by CBC News.
Dyck had served as the president and sole shareholder of the company, which had participants contribute an amount in cash and, in return, provided false invoices for business losses in amounts greater than the cash contribution.
In 2018 Dyck’s fine of $1 million CAD “more than doubled” on appeal.
The only image tying Dyck to World United is this grainy marketing slide from CBC News;
After his release from prison circa 2020, Dyck appears to have relocated to the US.
On June 15th, 2021, Dyck filed an application seeking to trademark “Treasure Island” for “television show production”.
Dyck is the sole correspondent listed in the application. Two Connect Social email addresses are provided as contact points – one of which appears to belong to Brett Nicholson.
Of note is Nicholson also being a Manitoba resident. Whether he was in any way involved in World United is unclear.
Dyck’s trademark application was “refused, dismissed or invalidated” and, following inaction by Dyck, deemed abandoned in October 2022.
Beyond that there is nothing publicly tying Jeff Dyck to Treasure Island.
Our reader claimed Dyck was using the aliases “Jeff Jeffries” and “Jeff Cain”. Nothing comes up for Jeff Cain but it seems Dyck, as Jeff Jeffries, did appear on a Mastery of Connections podcast in or around May 2024.
The podcast was hosted by Treasure Island promoter Alan Holmes and features Kury Roskopf, another promoter. Holmes cites Jeff Jeffries as the “brainchild behind” Treasure Island.
Jeff Jeffries has his own LinkedIn profile, on which he confirms he’s a Nevada resident and Treasure Island’s founder and CEO.
I don’t have a copy of the podcast, just the above cited LinkedIn post. Jeff Jeffries looks similar to World United’s Jeff Dyck but I needed to be 100% sure.
Thankfully upon being released from prison, one of the first things Jeff Dyck did was a “hide my fraud” PR campaign:
Yeah, that’s our guy.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Dyck came out of prison a crypto bro.
What’s one trend that excites you?
Definitely cryptocurrency and other alternative forms of payment.
I want to create a currency where it’s not decentralized but it’s not controlled by governments, either … I believe we’re developing just such a solution.
As far as I know that didn’t happen – although there is a “treasure island coin” component to Treasure Island.
Something else worth noting within the context of Treasure Island is ChildRun. For more on ChildRun we turn to a 2014 marketing pitch on a self-promotion blog, apparently set up by Dyck himself;
Jeff Dyck is currently working on a project called ChildRun- a marathon that will be filmed for reality TV that focuses on five different runners running marathons in different countries.
The main goal behind this project is to raise awareness and money for children’s charities around the world.
Although the premise is different, it appears Dyck is no stranger to reality show grifts. To the best of my knowledge Dyck’s ChildRun show never eventuated. Kind of like Treasure Island hasn’t.
Anyway there you have it; Treasure Island, an MLM company committing securities fraud in the US, was founded and is being run by a tax fraudster who’s served time.
I’ll leave it up to you as to why Jeff Dyck isn’t using his actual name in connection to Treasure Island.
Thank God there are people like you willing to expose these low life criminals. It’s so sad that so many innocent hard working honest tax payers get taken advantage of and literally robbed of their life savings.
Jeff Dyck from Winnipeg aka Jeff Jeffries from Las Vegas is a convicted career criminal who deserves the most severe penalty for continuing to live off of the money he steals from his victims.
Unfortunately, the justice system doesn’t enforce harsh enough sentences nor fines to deter scammers from continuing to commit fraud and tax evasion. Please keep up the important work that you do!
